ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri Baptist women's wrestling began the season in a big way at the Lindenwood University duals on Saturday. The team lost it's first dual against the No. 3-ranked Lindenwood University "A" team and came back to rattle-off two consecutive wins against Lindenwood's "B" team and Lindenwood University-Belleville.
Missouri Baptist's Caitlyn Chase was outstanding all day. The senior from Hanover Park, Ill., won each of her matches at the 109lb class, leading the Spartans to two wins on the day. In addition to Chase, freshmen Sarah Bollinger and Karissa Avallone also went undefeated.
In the first dual, the Spartans took on Lindenwood's top team and showed-off the depth of the 2012 squad. Newcommers Lindsay Villarmia (123lb class), Bollinger (139lb class) and Avallone (170lb class) all recorded victories in addition to Chase., though the Spartans came out on the losing end, 18-23.
The Spartans rallied in their final two competitions. The team posted big wins in addition to the aforementioned three. Cheyenne Youngblood earned her first victory for MBU in the 130lb class against Lindenwood "B" and followed it up with another win against the Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx.
Also earning her first two victories on the day was Julianna Triplett in the 191lb class. Triplett recorded wins against Lindenwood "B", helping the Spartans to a narrow 24-23 win, and against LU-Belleville in a 37-9 victory.
Missouri Baptist will turn around and head back out on the road next weekend, when the team travels to Oklahoma City University to compete in the Oklahoma City University duals.
