ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist men's tennis swiped one match away from the University of Missouri St. Louis Tritons on Tuesday afternoon in an 8-1 loss.
Missouri Baptist dropped its first two matches at No. 1 and 2 doubles before taking a big win at No. 3. The team of Connor and Cole Stevenson defeated Nils Corrales and Harry Heyburn 9-7 to put the Spartans on the board. This was, however, the only point the Spartans were able to post against the NCAA Division II school.
In singles action, MBU No. 1 Drew Morris played perhaps one of the best players he has seen this year in Nils Mueggemburg of Germany. Morris, a native of Kirkwood, Mo. played well throughout, but dropped the match 6-3, 6-1.
On the other end of play, Kirk Taas also saw some success against Nils Corrales, the 6'1" sophomore from Caracas, Venezuela. Taas lost 6-3, 6-1, but was competitive throughout against perhaps one of the best No. 6 players that he will face this season.
Missouri Baptist is playing one of the most difficult schedules it has in years in 2013, but plans to use the experience to its advantage in the coming months and years. The team will play Webster University on Tuesday, March 26 in its next competition.
