The MBU baseball team faced non-conference opponent Missouri Valley College in a nine-inning contest at Spartan Field Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans came away with an 11 to 3 victory over the Vikings. Tyler Anderson started the game on the mound for the Spartans, but there were numerous pitchers throughout the game who contributed to the win, including starting shortstop Billy Mansfield. Mansfield took the mound in the ninth inning.
On the offensive side, it was Jacob Gremminger, Aaron Phillips, and Adrian Martinez who shined with the bat. Gremminger had a great game, going 3-for-4 on the day with three stolen bases, and three RBI. Aaron Phillips also went 3-for-4, all hits being singles. Adrian Martinez showed off his power by hitting two home-runs. Martinez finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI. Johnathon Valle also came through with two hits in the game. Riley Gavello, Billy Mansfield and Trevor Sampson all chipped in with an RBI each.
The Spartans return to American Midwest Conference play this weekend, when they travel locally to Harris-Stowe State University. Game one of the four-game series starts Friday at 1:00 p.m.
