ST. LOUIS -- Senior AJ Carter-Johnson earned American Midwest Conference (AMC) Wrestler of the Week honors for his performance this past week, the AMC announced today.
For more on Carter-Johnson's standout week, read the following article contributed by AMC SID Reid Cure:
One Spartan from Missouri Baptist University (MBU) has paid his dues and is taking home his first American Midwest Conference (AMC) Wrestler of the Week Award. Andrew "A.J." Carter-Johnson put together a perfect week en-route to aiding MBU in taking down two of their three AMC opponents.
Carter-Johnson's closest match-up came in his first bout against Hannibal-LaGrange University's (HLGU) Jeremiah Reed. It went all the way to the decision, which saw Carter-Johnson on top by a score of 9-7. The Spartans would go on to defeat HLGU in their dual.
From there, the senior 174-pounder would face the NAIA's 14th-ranked Conner Linehan from Williams Baptist College (WBC). That match was short-lived as Carter-Johnson proved his worth by defeating Linehan with a fall in just 38 seconds. It wouldn't be enough, though, to pull the Spartans ahead of WBC in their dual.
Lastly for the St. Louis, Mo., native, Carter-Johnson faced off against Chris Robinson of Lyon College. Robinson would put up a better fight, but fell to the same fate as Linehan with a fall at 4:24.
Carter-Johnson hopes to represent MBU at the AMC Wrestling Championship on February, 6, but until then he can boast his first, and MBU's second AMC Wrestler of the Week award.
