Women's Tennis - Fri, Aug 7, 2009

The Missouri Baptist University women's tennis team will be under new, yet familiar, leadership for the 2009-2010 academic year.  Marty Tanner, who served as a Player Coach for the Lady Spartans last year, will step into the role of Head Coach this year.

"Playing beside these fine young women was a gift. Being asked to coach them is a gift also," said Tanner.

Former Head Coach Lloyd Brown has transitioned into the role of Director of Tennis Operations for the 09-10 year, leaving the head coaching duties to Coach Tanner.

Coach Tanner brings twenty years of playing and leadership experience in the St. Louis tennis community. Past work experience at Sunset Tennis Center, has set the groundwork of organizational skills, recruitment, and relationship building. She is an active member of USTA. As a team member, she has advanced to Sectionals on the Senior division (50+) league in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Her participation in the USTA Adult division proves her strong competitive drive. For many years, she has been a participant in her Kirkwood community Greentree Tennis Tournament and also served as a volunteer committee member.

Tanner has a visible presence on MBU's campus, as she is also a full-time student majoring in Sport Management. She obtained her Associates Degree in Management and Supervisory Development from St. Louis Community College in 1994.
