Women's Volleyball - Wed, Sep 2, 2009
The MBU women's volleyball team opened its season with a loss at NCAA Division II University of Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday night. The Lady Spartans dropped three straight games to the Lady Tritons; 25-18, 25-13, 25-23. With the win, UMSL improved to 4-1.
 
UMSL registerd 42 kills, led by junior Liz Cook, who recorded a match high 11 kills. Seniors Mandi Wolf and Katie Povis led the Lady Spartan front line with seven kills apiece. MBU finished the contest with just 26 team kills. Wolf also recorded 13 digs and Povis served for three aces. Heather Rynd, the senior setter who spent her first two seasons at MBU, but last season at Lambuth University, dished out 22 assists and served up two aces in her MBU return.
Missouri Baptist will play locally once again Wednesday night, as they travel down the road to Maryville University for a 7:00 match. They will then travel to Columbia, Mo. September 4th and 5th  for the annual Columbia College Best Western Classic. The Lady Spartans will face their first opponent of the tournament, local rival Lindenwood University, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
