The MBU women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season with a three-game decision over Maryville University at Maryville Wednesday night. The Lady Spartans hit .247 with 33 kills to take the match 25-23, 25-18, 25-15. The MBU defense held the Lady Saints to a dismal .039 hitting percentage.

"We started out slow tonight,"said MBU Head Coach John Yehling. "But they put together two and a half games of solid all around play."

Senior setter Heather Rynd (St. Peters, Mo./Zumwalt South) led the Lady Spartan offensive attack, dishing out 19 assists. "Heather Rynd ran a great offense," said Yehling, "And Danielled Deno played some great defense."

Deno, (Fenton, Mo./Ursuline) a senior defensive specialist, recorded five digs, and also chipped in two assists. Leading the way at the net for MBU was senior outside hitter Katie Povis, (St. Louis/Parkway South), who had a match high 11 kills.

With the win, Missouri Baptist improves to 1-1, while Maryville drops to 0-2. The Lady Spartans will now head to the Columbia College Best Western Classic this weekend, where they will look to add some wins as they face strong competition.
