Molly Fox and Alli Schmerbach grabbed a big win at No. 5
Sand Volleyball - Tue, Mar. 22, 2016

ST. LOUIS – [FINAL RESULTS] In the team's 11th match of the season, the Missouri Baptist Sand Volleyball squad had its first-ever home match. For those that showed-up to the white sand courts, it was a thrilling piece of history as the Spartans recorded their first win in program history

Missouri Baptist (1-10) had spend the bulk of its season on the road, playing against the top talent at the collegiate level, but as the team came home to play its first match in St. Louis, it finally broke through.

The Spartans dropped the first two matches at Nos. 3 and 4, 2-0, to Principia, and dug itself an early hole. The deficit, however, was short-lived.

Though the team picked-up wins at one, two and five, it was the No. 5 matchup that proved to be the key to victory. Alli Schmerbach and Molly Fox came through for the team in a three-set nail-biter to seal the deal. The duo won its first set 21-19, but suffered a 21-14 loss in the second to set-up the third set tiebreak. In a back-and-forth battle, the Missouri Baptist came through with the final two points to take the point for the home team.

The No. 1-team of Mallory Dillon and Marion Couraud did solid work in their match with a 2-0, 21-18, 21-11 victory.

Not to be outdone on the next court over, however, was the No. 2-team of Hannah Carey and Jen Brendel. The duo dominated Principia's Cha Cha Fisher and Emelie Fredrickson 2-0, 21-10 and 21-11.

Also, in exhibition play, Karli Mezo and Cammi Davis won their match 2-0.

With the win, the Spartans will enjoy a nine day break before heading back into action on Thursday, March 31 against NAIA opponent, St. Catharine (Ky.). First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on Ladue Rd.
