The MBU women's tennis team recently had the opportunity to watch top athletes perform, as well as to serve those athletes. On Saturday, September 12th, those MBU student-athletes volunteered a portion of their day serving at the U.S. Open USTA Wheelchair Championships at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
The ten MBU student-athletes spent their day of service assisting players to the court, shagging balls at the net, and caring for other miscellaneous needs. The athlete participants of the tournament were from around the world. In the Open Division, the MBU student-athletes were able to watch the #1 through #6 ranked players in the world compete.
"It was humbling, and the MBU students were grateful for this opportunity to assist others who love the sport of tennis," said MBU Head Women's Tennis Coach Marty Tanner.
The MBU women's team completed the service project as a part of the MBU Athletic Department's initiative of being a NAIA Champions of Character program. As a Champions of Character program, in addition to fulfilling other character-driven requirements, each MBU athletic team completes at least one service project in the community each year.
