Women's Soccer - Mon, Oct 5, 2009
The MBU women's soccer team opened play last week with a 3-2 win over non-conference rival Lindenwood University at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
Seniors Taylor Hay (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS) and Amanda Renaud (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Charles CC) each scored a goal and earned an assist each for the Lady Spartans, and sophomore Amy Kelly (Ireland) also scored for MBU. Junior goalkeeper Abigail Eckstien (Hudson, Ill./Heartland CC) recorded five saves and earned the win.

On Saturday, the Lady Spartans hosted their "Kick for the Cure" game to raise breast cancer awareness and financial support for breast cancer research. The game highlighted a month of fundraising efforts off the field, as the Lady Spartans sold pink shirts to raise over $750 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

On the field, MBU battled into overtime with American Midwest Conference opponent Hannibal-LaGrange College. The teams both left the field scoreless, with a 0-0 tie. Eckstien earned the shutout for the Lady Spartans, recording four saves.

The Lady Spartans are now 4-5-1 overall, 1-1-1 in the AMC.  They will face AMC opponent William Woods University in a re-scheduled game on Tuesday, October 6th at 5:00 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
