The MBU women's lacrosse team took to the soccer field on Saturday, October 3rd. The Lady Spartans laid aside their sticks and helmets to volunteer with the Special Needs Soccer Association (SPENSA) at Soccer Park in Fenton. At the clinic sponsored by SPENSA, eleven members of the MBU women's lacrosse team paired up with the children participants, as they learned skills in soccer drills and games.
"I thought SPENSA was a wonderful opportunity to share God's love and also feel it in return," said MBU freshman Eli Buschbacher. "The day was cold but the sun was shining down on us."
This was the second time that the MBU women's lacrosse team volunteered with SPENSA, and they will be doing so again in the Spring of 2010.
"We were eager to go back out and help at SPENSA," said MBU Head Coach Katie Rau. "The girls enjoy the opportunity to work with the kids and are sometimes stretched by doing something they don't do on a regular basis. It's a fun and rewarding morning for my players"
The Lady Spartans completed the service project as a part of the MBU Athletic Department's initiative of being a NAIA Champions of Character program. As a Champions of Character program, in addition to fulfilling other character-driven requirements, each MBU athletic team completes at least one service project in the community each year.
