The MBU women's wrestling team traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to compete at the Sunkist Kids International Open last Saturday. The Lady Spartans fared well against some of the toughest national and international competition.
MBU's highest finish came at 63 kg, with Veronica Carlson taking second place. The MBU freshman from AddisonTrail, Illinois (Marquette Senior High School) finished behind the 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist Sara McMann. Two Lady Spartans placed fourth, sophomore Amy Whitbeck (Duansburg, N.Y./Northern Michigan) at 51 kg, and sophomore Schuyler Brown (Montpelier,Va./Northern Michigan) at 59 kg. Freshman Caitlyn Chase (Hanover Park, Ill./Glenbard North HS) finished in sixth place at 48 kg.
The Lady Spartans will travel to Bristol, Tennessee on October 31st, to compete against King College.
