Sand Volleyball - Sat, Mar. 18, 2017

ST. LOUIS – [MATCH 1 BOX] [MATCH 2 BOX] Missouri Baptist Sand Volleyball struggled to get anything going on Saturday, after recording a pair of big wins the day before. The Spartans fell in consecutive matches to Central Arkansas and Carson-Newman (Tenn.) 5-0 and 4-1 respectively.

Missouri Baptist (5-5) had a tough day at the office as it grabbed one team point on the day, despite some close matches.

The lone win came at No. 1 against Carson-Newman as Missouri Baptist's Hannah Carey and Jen Brendel picked-up an impressive 2-0 win to begin things. The top team for the Spartans also pushed the No. 1 team of Central Arkansas, Hayley Tippett and Stephanie Pollnow, to a tiebreak set before falling 15-8 in the third.

Against Carson-Newman, Missouri Baptist also put together a great fight at No. 3 as 'Team Kelly' featuring Kelly Wilson and Kelly Hughes snagged a first set, 23-21 win before dropping the second 21-14. The Eagles' No. 3 team of Marnie Streeter and Eileen Anderson finished the match with a 15-8 win over the Spartans.

Not to be overlooked was the No. 4 team for the Spartans of Amanda Thibodeaux and Natalie Hecht. The pair lost in straight sets, but pushed their opponents Allie Foster and Morgan Ballard in both sets. The Eagles took the first set 21-18 before clawing to a 24-22 win over Missouri Baptist.

The Spartans will have a bit of a layoff before picking things back up in their lone home match of the season on March 30 against Principia (Ill.). First serves are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Elks Lodge No. 9 in Creve Coeur, Mo.
