Junior guard Megan Payton broke the MBU women's basketball single game scoring record, scoring 48 points in a107-97 Lady Spartan win over the Lindenwood Lions on Wednesday.

Payton, who took a medical red shirt for the 2008-2009 season due to an ACL injury, shot an impressive 22-of-30 from the field. She also hit 4-of-6 free-throw attempts. Her 48 points breaks the previous record of 46 points set by LaTrice McMichel in a triple overtime win over Harris-Stowe State College January 31, 2006.

The Lady Spartans gave up several easy buckets and were down to Lindenwood 51-57 at the half. MBU's tightened defense led to seven straight points out of the locker room, as they  took a 58-57 advantage. From there, Missouri Baptist continued to build its lead, never relinquishing in the second half. The Lady Spartans won the track meet 107-97.

MBU shot an impressive 63.4% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. They shot 65% from the foul line. The Lady Spartans out-rebounded LU 35-33 and forced 24 Lion turnovers.

Payton's 48 points led all scorers. Junior Jessica Moore scored 19 points and dished out six assists. Junior guard Meagan Price scored 10 points. Sophomore guard Andrea Seabaugh recorded 7 assists. Junior forward Ashley Johnson recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. In last Thursday's win over Culver-Stockton, Johnson set the single game rebounding record, pulling down 19 boards. The previous record of 18 was set by Domonique Brown in 2005.
