The MBU women's basketball team is off to a 5-0 start after a 71-56 win over Heidelberg University(Ohio) in W.L. Muncy Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Spartans held a 33-21 lead at the half, but the Berg came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders. They forced several MBU turnovers and converted offfensively. MBU's lead was cut away until HU tied up the score midway through the second period. A revived Lady Spartan defensive effort gave MBU control of the game back with under five minutes remaining. The Lady Spartans sealed the victory with a lay-up as time expired.
Junior guard Megan Payton and junior forward Jessica Moore led MBU with 23 points each. Payton also pulled down 11 boards and Moore grabbed 8. Junior forward Ashley Johnson added 16 points and 9 rebounds. for the Lady Spartans.
The Lady Spartans will host NCAA D-3 Greenville College on Tuesday, before taking a break for Thanksgiving weekend.
