ST. LOUIS -- Missouri Baptist catcher Brandon Schlichtig signed a professional baseball contract with the Gateway Grizzlies Tuesday afternoon. The Grizzlies play at nearby GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, Ill. and are part of the independent Frontier League. 

Schlichtig, who recently completed his senior season, helped lead Missouri Baptist baseball to its second-ever NAIA World Series appearance in 2017. The Vianney High School grad made 30 starts in the Spartans 45-16 season, while hitting .314 with two doubles, two home runs and 18 runs batted in. Schlichtig's breakout senior campaign also included an on-base percentage of .500 in 86 at-bats and a slugging percentage of .407. He hit .311 over his three-year Spartan career spanning 72 games.
