ST. LOUIS— [BOX SCORE] [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist had a solid start to their weekend in Belleville, Ill., sweeping both opponents. The day started at 9 am with a match against Cumberland University (Tenn.), and concluded at 5 pm versus Friends University (Kan.).

The Spartans may have taken both matches today, however, the first matchup looked to be anybody's game. MBU came out on top for the first two sets by just a few points. The squad knew in order to take the match in three sets that they had to pump up their energy.

The third set started much like the others, with a lot of back and forth play. The game was tied at five when junior Cate Cigarini dished out a kill, then went back to serve six in a row for the Spartans. From there on out, Missouri Baptist kept the lead, and it was game over for Cumberland. MBU claimed the match as their own in three sets, 25-20, 25-21, and 25-13.

Junior Kamden Maas started off the second match of the day with two service aces, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Rachel Poole set up her front row beautifully, assisting in 38 of MBU's 42 kills. The Spartans took game two in three sets, as well, 25-16, 25-16, and 25-12.
