ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer began their 2017 AMC schedule with a 2-1 overtime defeat to Hannibal-LaGrange on Wednesday. The Spartans pushed the defending AMC champions to the brink but the Trojans found the winner six minutes into the extra period.

Adriano Baeta opened the scoring for Hannibal in the 22nd minute and the home side held on to that 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Missouri Baptist controlled the play after the break and outshot the Trojans 13-10 in the second half. The hard work finally paid off in the 67th minute when Gerardo Espinoza buried his second goal of the season. Jake Smith provided the assist.

MBU leaned on their freshman goalkeeper late. Davide Bucarelli made several key saves to keep the match tied and also got some help from the woodwork when Isaac Lehmkuhl rifled a shot off the post in the 85th minute. Bucarelli would finish the day with four saves.

The match continued into overtime and Lehmkuhl would eventually find his revenge. The junior pounced on a rebound and slid it past Bucarelli in the 96th minute to win it for the home side.

"I'm pleased with boys' effort today," noted MBU Head Coach Jake Alvernia. "We really came out strong in second half and put the pressure on. In the end, a bit unlucky with a non-call in box that could have made the difference and game winner from them on a broken play. Davide made a good save and we couldn't help him clear it."

The Spartans are now 2-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. They'll return home to face William Woods on Saturday. Kickoff at CBC Stadium is set for 5 pm.
