The MBU women's basketball JV team recently had the opportunity to serve the community, while teaching the skills of basketball. The Lady Spartans traveled to the St. Louis South City YMCA to teach a group of 4-12 year olds more about the game of hoops.
25 kids participated in the clinic held January 9th. Over the course of an hour, the Lady Spartan basketball players, led by Coach Brittany Imig, instructed the youth in the fundamentals of dribbling, shooting, and passing, with a special emphasis on defense.
"Our girls had a great time, and so did the kids," said Coach Imig. "We would definitely love having the opportunity to do this again with the YMCA next season."
As a NAIA Champions of Character institution, the Missouri Baptist University athletic teams are each finding unique ways to serve the St. Louis community. In addition to the clinic at the YMCA, the women's basketball team often serves at the Jewish Center for the Aged in Chesterfield, Mo.
