Women's Basketball - Sun, Feb 28, 2010
The MBU women's basketball team concluded the regular season by going 1-1 last week in American Midwest Conference play. The Lady Spartans lost to the NAIA's #16 William Woods University 78-68 on Thursday. However, it was MBU's 90-84 road victory over Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday that secured a fourth place finish out of nine teams in the AMC.

Along with the fourth place finish, the Lady Spartans received the fourth place seed in the AMC Post-Season Tournament, by virtue of a tie-breaker. The Lady Spartans will host Hannibal-LaGrange College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3. The Lady Spartans won both regular season contests.

The AMC bracket relied on three tie-breakers to determine tournament seedings.

Finishing first in the AMC were William Woods, Columbia College, and McKendree University, all with a 14-2 mark. The Lady Owls of WWU won that tie-breaker to take the #1 seed, with CC Lady Cougars taking the #2 seed, followed by the Lady Bearcats at #3.

Finishing in a three-way tie for fourth with 8-8 conference records were MBU, Hannibal-LaGrange College, and Williams Baptist College. MBU earned the #4 seed, with HLG taking 5h and WBC 6th. Park University, who finished in seventh with a 4-12 record, was the only team to stand alone. Tied for eighth with Stephens College, Harris-Stowe won the final tie-breaker to take the #8 tourney seed.

The AMC Tournament will open Monday night with the opening round between Stephens College and Harris-Stowe. Download the complete AMC Women's Basketball Tournament Bracket HERE.
