The Missouri Baptist wrestling squad is in eleventh place with 19 points after one day of action at the 2010 NAIA Wrestling National Championships. Notre Dame College of Ohio leads the pack with 44 points. Three Spartan grapplers have advance to today's championship quarterfinals, while the rest of the team will look to stay alive in wrestleback action.

At 125 pounds, freshman Zach Meury got a first round bye and won an 11-2 decision over Paulie Hansen (MVC). He will now face Mitchell Lofstedt (SOU) in the championship quarterfinals.

At 133 pounds, senior Gary Brooks won his first match in a 5-3 decision over Chase Dirden (MSUN). He lost his second match of the day to Tommy Pretty (CaU) in a 3-1 decision. Today, he will face the winner of Jake McManigal (MCIA) and John Garza (ERAU) in the wrestlebacks. Also at 133 pounds, senior Anton Prater went 2-0, winning an 8-3 decision over MCIA's McManigal and a 13-11 decision over Charles Chatman (BAC). Next, he will face Ty Costa in the championship quarterfinals.

At 141 pounds, Jacob Thornton lost a 5-2 decision to Kasey Cates (HLG). Today, he will face Andrew Carrillo in wrestlebacks. At 157 pounds, senior Gerald Harris was defeated in a 10-6 decision by Tommie Norton-Hooper (SOU). He will face Jairin Potter (HC) today in wrestleback action.

At 174 pounds, junior Zach Fears went 1-1. He won his first match by forfeit over Austin Vanderford (SOU). Jameon Rush (HC) defeated Fears (T1.5; 17-2;7:00). He will face the winner of Josh Ghobadpoor (DC) and Jon Bittenger (NDC) today in wrestlebacks. Also at 174 pounds, sophomore Gavilan Bland went 1-1. He won a 7-5 decision over Jobi Hambrick (HLG) in the opening round and lost an 8-6 decision to Bryan Wells (CaU). He will face the winner of the Daniel Bedoy (CCSJ) and David Carter (NWC) today in wrestlebacks.

At 184 pounds, Jake Oberfoell went 2-0 and recorded MBU's first fall of the tournament. He won a 7-3 decision over Brett Owen (DSU) in first round action. He then defeated Jamel Wheatley (YC) by fall (1:33). Next, he will Alex Denman (NDC) in championship quarterfinal action.

At 197 pounds, senior Clayton Olsson lost an 11-4 decision to Jake Kallestad (DSU). His wrestleback opponent has yet to be determined. Also at 197 pounds, senior Ike Okenwa lost a 9-2 decision to Nic Leither (NWC). He will face Jacob Nowak (BU) today in wrestlebacks. 

At 285 pounds, senior Mike Wakim went 1-1. He defeated Brad Hughes (NWC) by fall (1:49) in first round action. He then lost a 5-2 decision to Chas Maloch (MU). Also at 285, sophomore Joe Kent lost a 9-1 decision to Corey Johnson (OCU) in first round action.  The MBU pair may face each other in wrestleback action today, as Wakim will face the winner between Kent and Derek Nightser (GVU).
