Men's Lacrosse - Wed, Mar 24, 2010
The MBU men's lacrosse team won two games in a row last Friday and Saturday, to improve to 3-2 on the season. On March 19, the Spartans took on the Wheaton Thunder on a beautiful, sunny day at home. Wheaton came out firing early and scored two quick goals.  MBU's defense and junior goalie Ben Hughes djusted quickly and held the Thunder to only one more goal in the first half.  MBU's offense, led by sophomore attackmen David Justvig and Ryan Zimmer, answered immediately, taking the lead 3-2 in the first quarter. They scored at will in the second, adding six goals before half.

The score at the start of the second half was 9-3. The Spartan defense stood firm, not allowing any settled goals, but Wheaton was able to capitalize on penalties late in the third quarter. That wasn't enough for the Thunder, as the Spartan offense was firing on all cylinders, with MBU taking the 16-7 win.

For MBU, David Justvig had five goals, Ryan Zimmer had three goals and one assist, and goalkeeper Ben Hughes had 12 saves, with a .632 save percentage.

On March 20, MBU hosted divisional opponent Harding University. The Spartan defense, led by junior Alex Belosi, had another brilliant performance, holding an experienced Harding Offense to only one goal each in the first, second, and fourth quarters. Riding high after a big win the day before over the Wheaton Thunder, MBU's offense came out scoring quickly, putting five goals away in the first and second quarters.

Possession was kept easily in MBU's offensive end by hard work at the face-off X, with newcomer Ian Brosch, freshman Brice Otte, and junior Justin Mueller all combing to win 18 out of 22 face-offs.

In the second half, the Spartans never looked back, as they added 11 more goals. The final score stood 21-5 in MBU's favor. Attackmen Justin Mueller, David Justvig, and Ryan Zimmer combined for 13 goals.Justvig led all scorers with six goals and one assist

The MBU men's lacrosse team is back in action this weekend, when they take on the University of Kansas and Creighton University in Lawrence, Kansas.
