The MBU baseball team earned a four-game series sweep of the Park University Pirates at home this weekend. The Spartans now stand at 30-11 overall, 15-1 in the American Midwest Conference.

The Spartans opened the week of play down the road at Maryville University on Tuesday. MBU won the contest 16-5, with Victor Gonzalez earning the win on the mound.

On Friday, the Spartans opened the series with Park by winning a 12-0 shutout in six innings. Drew Firebaugh pitched the complete game, allowing just three hits, and striking out four batters. In game two, Park carried a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning. The Spartans scored five runs in the sixth, and allowed just one Pirate run in the seventh, to win the game 5-4. Scott Kuhns pitched six innings for the win.

On Saturday, Rashad Tucker pitched a 6-0 seven inning shutout win for the Spartans. In the final game of the series, MBU's Sean Woolard allowed just one run in six innings to earn the 2-1 win. Victor Gonzalez picked up the save.

For the week, the Spartans were once again led by Armando Gutierrez at the plate. He went 7-for-16, with two doubles, three home runs and six RBI.

The Spartans (15-1) maintain sole possession of first place in the AMC, four games ahead of William Woods University (10-4). MBU will face the Owls in a four game series at William Woods this weekend. First, they will host the 12th ranked Union University Bulldogs in a double header on Tuesday.
