The MBU baseball team made some noise on Tuesday, upsetting the NAIA's 13th ranked Union University Bulldogs in a double header sweep at home. Also on Tuesday, the Spartans jumped into the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time this season. They hold the #22 spot.
A seven run second inning by Union in game one, had the Bulldogs commanding the game's lead most of the game. The Bulldogs held a 10-8 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Spartans scored three runs off three home runs, to steal the victory. The Spartans hit seven home runs in the contest, led by Adalberto Vargas and Matt Holliman, who hit two a piece.
Game two was a different story, as the Spartans dominated the entire game. MBU scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Spartans ran away with the game in five innings, picking up a 12-1 win. Brandon Brokaw pitched four innings for the win. Ronald Melo led the game's hitting barrage for the Spartans, drilling
two homers and a double, as he went 4-for-5.
The Spartans are now 32-11 on the season, 15-1 in the American Midwest Conference. They travel to William Woods University for a four game series this weekend, as they attempt to help secure the AMC Regular Season Title.
