The Spartan baseball team's exciting post-season run has come to an end at the NAIA National Championship Opening Round in Jackson, Mississippi. The top seeded Spartans were knocked off by the fourth seed Texas Wesleyan University on Thursday, May 20.
Missouri Baptist was sent to the elimination bracket after suffering a 9-6 loss to the second seed Belhaven University on Wednesday. The Spartans' effort to play back into the Championship Game fell short against Texas Wesleyan on Thursday. The Rams avenged a second round Tuesday loss to the Spartans by nabbing the 7-5 upset victory on Thursday.
Belhaven defeated Texas Wesleyan 4-3 in Thursday night's Championship Game to earn the right to advance to the 2010 Avista NAIA World Series.
The Spartans finish their stellar season with a 43-14 record. They won both the American Midwest Conference Regular Season and Tournament Titles, and made their first ever appearance in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.
