St. Louis, Mo. - The Missouri Baptist University men's wrestling team began Wednesday's dual against Hannibal LaGrange strong and never let up, winning the match 40-4.
The two AMC teams squared off at Missouri Baptist for the final time at Muncie Gymnasium, as all indoor athletic teams will now move to the brand new Carl Petty Sports and Recreation Complex. On this final night, several former Spartan wrestlers were on hand to watch the competition.
MBU's Efrain Aguilar (125), Tyler Holloway (133) and Robert Nickson (141) got the match started off on the right foot with three consecutive victories. Josh Reid followed with another Spartan win in the 157lb weight class, making the match score 30-0.
After a double exhibition match between Davis Keleher (MBU) and Bryce Alexander (HLG), the Trojan's Nathan Downs got his team on the board with a victory over AJ Carter.
Perhaps the most explosive match of the evening was the heavyweight bout between MBU's Joe Kent and Hannibal's Tyler Cook. Kent, currently ranked third in the NAIA, showed why he is one of the best in the nation. The Ft. Lauderdale native wasted little time and took down his opponent within seconds.
The Spartans boast five wrestlers that are nationally ranked in their respective weight class and three competed on Wednesday. Tyler Holloway (#5, 133), Lucas Keene (#10, 197) and Joe Kent (#3, Heavyweight) all won their matches and were major contributors in the victory. MBU is currently ranked 11th in the NAIA.
