Marty Tanner - Head Coach - 3rd Season
The 2011-2012 year marks Tanner's third year as Head Coach at Missouri Baptist University. In 2008-09, she had a dual role as Assistant Coach and team player. Tanner has a visible presence on MBU's campus, as she has also been a full-time student majoring in Sport Management. She completed her undergraduate studies in December 2010.  During her academic career Tanner received numerous recognitions, including Who's Who Among Students in Universities in 2011, Outstanding Student Major in Fall 2010 from Missouri Association of Health, Physical Education, and Recreational Dance, and graduated Cum Laude. She obtained her Associates Degree in Management and Supervisory Development from St. Louis Community College in 1994.

Coach Tanner brings twenty plus years of playing and leadership experience in the St. Louis tennis community. Past work experience at Sunset Tennis Center, has set the groundwork of organizational skills, recruitment, and relationship building. She is an active member of USTA. As a team member, she has advanced to Sectionals on the Senior division (50+) league in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Her participation in the USTA Adult division proves her strong competitive drive. For many years, she has been a participant in her Kirkwood community Greentree Tennis Tournament and also served as a volunteer committee member.

Tanner has been married to her husband, Mark, for 34 years. They have two children, Lindsey, 27 and Steven, 25. Born and raised in the Kirkwood area, she met her future husband through involvement at Kirkwood Baptist Church. She was an active volunteer in church and the classroom while raising her children. Tanner's current volunteer opportunities have been for the USTA Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Tournament, and the Major League Baseball All-Star Fanfest and Run. She looks forward to help build the tennis program and MBU.

At the helm of the women's tennis program Tanner has had two NAIA Scholar Teams (2010 and 2011) and two NAIA Scholar Athletes. (Lindsay Dixon in 2010 and 2011 and Kristin Roberts in 2011) The women's tennis team has also assisted with the USTA Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in 2010 and 2011 as a team community service project. 
 
Llloyd Brown Image
Llloyd Brown - Associate Head Coach - 6th Season
Lloyd Brown is in his sixth season with Missouri Baptist University. He served the past four years as the Head Men's & Women's Coach, and makes this his second season as the Director of Tennis Operations.
 
Before joining MBU, Coach Brown served as the Head Tennis Coach at Jefferson College for 22 years. He has had the honor of being inducted into the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame. Brown was an excellent junior player who played #1 singles and doubles at Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College (now Truman State). He later became a teaching pro, working for legends Earl Buchholz, Sr. and Bill Price, who once tabbed Brown as the best teaching pro he knew.
 
Brown coached at University City High School, helping Ralph Hart, Jr. to a 1969 Missouri State Singles Title. As the St. Louis Junior Development Director, his teams won National City Championships in 1967 and 1969, with Jimmy Connors as one of his players.
 
During his 22 years at Jefferson College, Brown's teams were 449-97 (averaging overn 20 wins per season). He also coached 13 All-Americans and 9 Academic All-Americans. He received the NJCAA Hershel Stevens Coaching Award in 1996, was elected to the NJCAA Men's Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998, was presented the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year Award in 2001, and was inducted into the Jefferson College Harold Oetting Wall of Fame in 2004. His team's highest ranking was in 1998, finishing third in the nation.
 
Coach Brown and wife Ruthie have three children and seven grandchildren.

David DeLoach - Assistant Coach - 1st Season

Assistant Women's Tennis - Coach David DeLoach 

 

Coach DeLoach has spent most his life playing and coaching tennis. He was a top ranked St. Louis junior player in the 70s and then went on to play college tennis for Division II  powerhouse Northwest Missouri State University. Upon graduating from Northwest with a degree in Public Relations Coach DeLoach was the head tennis pro at west Chester Tennis Club. In addition to coaching tennis he works in the printing  industry.

 

Coach DeLoach has been married for 30 years to his wife Sheryl, a fifth grade teacher and former cross country and track standout at Northwest Missouri State. They have two grown sons. Aaron is 27 and played soccer at Florida Southern University. He then went on to play 3 years of professional soccer. He is currently a youth pastor at Christ Fellowship Church in Florida. Ryan is 27 and is also an avid soccer player,  He lives in Boston, MA and works for Catholic Charities while finishing his master's degree in History/Education.
