The Missouri Baptist Spartans cut their run in the NAIA Conference Tournament short tonight with a loss against the Missouri Valley College Vikings in the semi-finals. The Vikings fought abck after being down 0-2 in the match, winning the following three sets to defeat the Spartans 2-3.
Tonight the Missouri Baptist Spartans closed out their regular season with a victory of Lindenwood University-Belleville, 3-0. Prior to match's start, Missouri Baptist took time to show their appreciation for the six graduating seniors. Rob Esser, Travis Collard, Timmy Duong, Clayton Baker, Jordan Pinto, and Danny Gruszczyk were all honored tonight. Graduate Assistant Brian Muesenfechter was also shown appreciation as it is his last season as a coach at MBU.
The Spartans travelled to Quincy, Ill. tonight to take on the Hawks of Quincy University. Entering tonight's contest, the Hawks sat at 12-11. Missouri Baptist entered tonight's contest at 19-7. This non-conference matchup turned out to be a thriller, just as the Spartans match against Park was the night before, except the Spartans came out on top.
It was an exciting match at the Carl & Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex on Missouri Baptist's campus tonight. The No. 3 Pirates of Park University traveled to St. Louis to take on the No. 4 Missouri Baptist Spartans. It was a closely fought battle, lasting almost two and half hours.
Senior Robert Esser was named Setter of the Week for the NAIA. With an impressive week's play, Esser led the Spartans to a 4-1 record, and has been a huge factor of the team's successful 19-6 season.
